Back then I did some research and found that large corporations tend to want ESTJ: Extrovert, Sensing, Thinking, Judging.
Meaning a focus on the rational, decisions made on logic rather than feeling.
That standard seeps outward
When large organisations select that way for long enough, society gradually places those people above everyone else.
You have to be outgoing to succeed. You have to talk a lot to succeed. You have to be rational, never led by feeling.
Eventually it becomes a standard you hold yourself to.
So I did not answer honestly
Taking employers' personality tests, I would sit and work out how an ESTJ would answer this question. Then answer exactly that.
And it worked. I got through those stages fairly easily.
But then what
Later, working and talking with friends at those large firms, managers among them, I understood that the job was never going to be right for me.
Even if I had got in, I could not have done it, because I am the opposite in almost every respect. Take the test honestly and the result comes back the same every year.
What I take from it
Gaming a personality test only means you have successfully persuaded someone to place you somewhere you do not fit.
The screening is not the thing to get past. Whether it suits you is the thing worth caring about.
